The Lost Megacity of Eridu

In 2025, archaeologists in Eridu uncovered something that rewrites the story of civilization. Beneath the sands of southern Iraq, they found a vast 7,000-year-old network of canals and farms. More than 4,000 canals and 700 agricultural plots reveal an ancient system that powered the world’s first urban life. Eridu, once dismissed as a myth, now stands as humanity’s earliest capital. Sumerian chronicles had whispered its name for centuries, but no one imagined how advanced it truly was.
