The Dyatlov Pass Case

Editor's Take

The deaths of nine Soviet hikers on a frozen Ural slope in 1959 have drawn explanations ranging from the mundane to the outlandish, and the film sorts through them with deliberate calm. LEMMiNO reconstructs the timeline and reviews the autopsy findings before testing theories from avalanche to weapons trials against what the record supports. Its strength is a refusal to be pulled toward the most dramatic reading. The result treats an enduring puzzle as a problem in evidence rather than a ghost story.

In 1959 nine experienced Soviet hikers died on a frozen mountain in the Urals, found scattered and half dressed with injuries no one could explain. LEMMiNO revisits the Dyatlov Pass incident with a cool head, walking through the timeline, the autopsies, and the long list of theories from avalanche to secret weapons test. It is careful about what is known versus what is rumour, and honest about where the evidence simply runs out. The result is the clearest single account of a mystery that has resisted explanation for more than sixty years. Free to watch in HD on Dr Documentary.
