Cover Up: Behind the Iran-Contra Affair

Dr.Docs' Take

Iran-Contra is the Reagan-era scandal where senior officials secretly sold weapons to Iran and funneled the profits to Nicaraguan rebels Congress had explicitly banned funding. I love this one because it is a conspiracy that got a name, hearings, and a paper trail, and still mostly slid. Everyone remembers the shredded documents and the convenient memory losses. Proof that the real cover-ups do not need aliens, just a fax machine and plausible deniability.

This documentary unpacks the Iran-Contra affair, the political scandal that shook the Reagan administration when it emerged in 1986. It explains how senior officials secretly sold arms to Iran and funnelled the proceeds to Contra rebels in Nicaragua, defying US law and Congress. Through the investigations and hearings that followed, the film traces the cover-up and the questions it raised about accountability at the highest levels. It is a clear guide to one of the era's most tangled political crises. Free to watch in HD on Dr Documentary.
