Terminal F: Chasing Edward Snowden

Dr.Docs' Take

Picture the most powerful government on Earth completely losing the plot over one guy stuck in an airport. That is the spectacle here: Edward Snowden, the contractor who blew the whistle on the NSA's global surveillance machine in 2013, marooned in a Moscow transit lounge while Washington threw everything it had at dragging him home. My favorite detail is the afternoon several countries forced down a Bolivian president's plane on a rumor Snowden might be aboard. That is not, I would gently suggest, how you behave when you have nothing to hide.

Terminal F retells the tense weeks in 2013 when Edward Snowden, freshly revealed as the source of the largest intelligence leak in US history, was trapped in transit and hunted by his own government. It follows the scramble between Hong Kong and Moscow, the journalists carrying the documents, and the diplomatic pressure aimed at stopping him. The film plays the chase as a real-time thriller while keeping the real stakes, mass surveillance and the limits of state power, firmly in view. It is a strong primer on how one contractor forced a global argument about privacy. Free to watch in HD on Dr Documentary.
