HyperNormalisation

Dr.Docs' Take

HyperNormalisation is Adam Curtis arguing that governments and corporations gave up on the real world decades ago and built us a simpler fake one instead, and we all quietly agreed to pretend. I cannot fully defend the logic and I also cannot stop thinking about it. It connects Syria, Trump, finance and the internet into one hypnotic three-hour argument. Put it on, and the news never looks quite solid again.

HyperNormalisation is Adam Curtis's sprawling essay on how politicians, financiers, and technologists retreated from a complex world into a simpler, managed version of reality. Ranging from Syria and Donald Trump to Brexit and the internet, it argues that we have come to accept a fake and unstable order because no one can imagine an alternative. The film weaves archive footage into a hypnotic, unsettling argument about power and perception. It is a challenging and original take on why the modern world feels so strange.
