The Smallest Clue That Triggered a Massive Spy Hunt in America (Cold War Story)

Dr.Docs' Take

June 1953, a Brooklyn paperboy drops a hollow nickel, it splits open on his bedroom floor, and the tiny coded message inside eventually cracks open one of the biggest spy hunts in American history. I live for a story where the entire Cold War pivots on a coin bouncing off the linoleum. It led investigators all the way to a Soviet colonel. Proof, again, that the espionage that actually happened is stranger than the fiction it inspired.

The Smallest Clue That Triggered a Massive Spy Hunt in America (Cold War Story) On June 22nd, 1953, a 14-year-old newspaper delivery boy in Brooklyn dropped a nickel on his bedroom floor.
