The Kinks: In Their Own Words - Full Music Documentary

Editor's Take

Told largely through the band's own recollections, this music documentary traces the Kinks from the British Invasion to the proto-metal riffs and concept albums that outran their era's recognition. It is candid about the creative friction, particularly within the group, that fueled and complicated the work. Followers of the period will find it more interested in the tension behind the songs than in tidy legend-making.

This documentary tells the story of the Kinks, one of rock music's most influential yet underappreciated bands, in their own words. It follows the group from the British Invasion through the riffs that helped inspire heavy metal and the concept albums that pushed the form forward. Candid recollections reveal the creativity and conflict behind the music. Insightful and entertaining, it is a rich portrait of a great band. Free to stream in 4K on Dr Documentary.
