Why You'd Never Want to Be a Firefighter in the 1800s

In this episode of Worst Jobs in History, Tony Robinson takes on the grim, dangerous work of firefighting and water carrying in earlier centuries. He meets the water caddies who hauled it on their backs and imagines firefighters who had only wet beards to breathe through inside burning buildings. Through hands-on demonstration it brings the hardship of past labor vividly to life. It is an entertaining, eye-opening look at how brutal ordinary work once was.
