The Trauma of the Caucasus
Decades of conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia have left nearly a million people displaced. As Azerbaijan reshapes Nagorno-Karabach, Armenians fear the erasure of their history. Azerbaijan’s takeover of Nagorno-Karabach forced over 120,000 Armenians to flee. “I feel sick, physically, mentally and emotionally”, reports one refugee. Journalist Chris Michel reports on both sides of the conflict, revealing deep-seated fear and trauma. “Ethnic cleansing happened in Nagorno-Karabach”, says one minister.
