Over a three-year expedition to the Black Sea, a team of archaeologists and scientists sought to uncover its secrets, from its geological past as a freshwater lake to its history as an ancient trade route. Initial dives retrieved a 1,000-year-old amphora from a Byzantine shipwreck, confirming the sea's remarkable preservation abilities. The team also determined that the sea flooded gradually over thousands of years, not in a catastrophic event.
