In this Werner Herzog documentary, German-born pilot Dieter Dengler recounts his extraordinary escape from a prison camp in Laos after being shot down during the Vietnam War. Returning to the jungle where he was held, he relives capture, starvation and a desperate bid for freedom. Herzog turns one man's survival into a haunting meditation on obsession and the will to fly.
