The Untouchables

Dr.Docs' Take

The Untouchables is FRONTLINE going after the question that still stings: why not one Wall Street executive went to prison for the 2008 mortgage fraud that torched the economy. It lays out the internal warnings that got ignored and the Justice Department quietly deciding some firms were too big to jail. Sober, sourced, and infuriating in the way only calm reporting can be. The biggest heist of the century was legal by the time the paperwork cleared.

This FRONTLINE investigation asks why no Wall Street executives went to prison for the fraud tied to the sale of bad mortgages that helped trigger the 2008 financial crisis. It probes whether the biggest banks and their leaders were effectively too big to jail, drawing on insiders and prosecutors. The film builds a careful case about accountability and the limits of American justice. For anyone interested in the crash and its aftermath, it is a compelling piece of reporting.
