Operation Paperclip: How America Used Nazi Scientists to Win the Cold War

Dr.Docs' Take

Operation Paperclip is the one where the good guys blink, the covert US program that spirited former Nazi scientists, Wernher von Braun among them, to America before the Soviets could grab them. I keep this filed under conspiracies confirmed, uncomfortably, by history. The rockets that reached the moon were designed by men with pasts nobody wanted printed. Watch it and sit with the price of winning the space race.

In the aftermath of World War II, the United States launched a covert intelligence program known as Operation Paperclip, designed to secretly recruit former Nazi scientists before they could fall into Soviet hands. Among the most prominent figures brought to America was Wernher von Braun, a former SS officer and lead architect of Germany’s V-2 rocket program, which relied heavily on forced labor from concentration camps.
