Secrets Declassified: The CIA's Underground Communication Network

Dr.Docs' Take

This is the CIA's audacious 1954 Berlin tunnel, a secret dig under the Soviet sector to physically tap Moscow's phone lines, one of the boldest operations of the early Cold War. I love it because the ambition is almost comic, we will simply tunnel under the enemy and listen. The twist, that a mole may have betrayed it from the start, only makes it better. Espionage as engineering, and a reminder that both sides were playing this game with shovels.

In 1954 Berlin, the CIA creates a vast network of underground tunnels to find out secret information. See more in this clip from Season 1, Episode 3, "Extreme Missions." From black ops and bizarre experiments to deadly cover-ups and nefarious gadgets, David Duchovny pulls the curtain back on all the government secrets in modern history we always suspected, but were never given the answers to.
