The Final Months of WW2: The End of the War in Color

Editor's Take

Working from colorized archive, this account covers the last months of the Second World War in Europe as the Allies pressed toward victory. It follows the final battles and the collapse of the Third Reich while keeping the human cost in view. Colorization is the film's evident gambit, lending immediacy to footage usually seen in black and white; some viewers will find it clarifying, others distracting. As a chronicle of the war's end it is sober rather than triumphal.
