Editor's Take

Retracing a legendary Asian route in a vintage Land Rover, this follows Alex Bescoby and his team across brutal roads from Malaysia and Thailand onward. Breakdowns and border crossings become the substance of the story, giving the expedition its shape and its stakes. It blends adventure with a thread of history about the original journey it honors. The pleasures are those of the road film, namely incident, endurance, and changing terrain.
