WWII in Colour: Red Sun Rampant – Pacific War

Editor's Take

Part of a colourized series, this episode opens at Pearl Harbor and follows the Pacific war through its island campaigns and naval battles. The restored footage is the draw, bringing an immediacy to events usually seen in grainy monochrome. It is broad-brush narrative history, built for viewers who want the sweep rather than the granular debate.

Part of the World War II in Colour series, this episode turns to the Pacific, beginning with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 that drew the United States into the war. Restored colour footage carries the viewer through the brutal island campaigns and naval battles that followed, from early Japanese advances to the hard American counteroffensive. The colourisation lends immediacy to events often seen only in grainy black and white. It is a vivid, accessible account of the Pacific front. Free to watch in HD on Dr Documentary.
