What Did Hoplites Eat on Campaign? - Greek Army Logistics DOCUMENTARY
In this history documentary we explore the topic of what ancient Greek armies ate while on campaign. The video begins with a review of what ancient Greeks typically ate at home. This included a 3 meal tradition with lots of bread, cheese, olives, fish, legumes, leafy greens, and more. Their diet was rich but not all such products could be obtained whilst at war. We next cover Greek army logistics to give you a sense for how hoplite armies would feed and supply themselves whilst on campaign.
