Palestine vs Israel: Origins of the Conflict

Editor's Take

Reaching back to the First World War, this history locates the roots of the conflict in the contradictory promises made over the same territory and the imperial rivalries that surrounded them. It describes competing national ambitions and the diplomatic double-dealing that shaped the region without adjudicating present claims. The film is best understood as an account of origins, concerned with how the dispute was set in motion rather than with assigning blame today.

This documentary traces the deep roots of the conflict between Arabs and Jews in the Middle East, showing how British double-dealing during the First World War helped ignite it. It follows the rival ambitions of competing empires, the contradictory promises made over the same land, and the misguided strategies that shaped the region's future. The film offers historical context for a conflict still unfolding today. Clear and even-handed, it illuminates a complex history. Free to watch in HD on Dr Documentary.
