How does sexual desire really arise? - The science behind arousal | DW Documentary

Dr.Docs' Take

The genuine odd one out on this shelf, a DW science film on where sexual desire actually comes from, far more biology than cover-up. I will happily allow it, because the machinery behind a feeling everyone assumes is spontaneous is its own quiet mystery. It is genuinely interesting and admirably frank. Consider it a palate cleanser between the saucers and the secret societies, and yes, I needed one too.

Sexual desire often feels like a spontaneous, almost uncontrollable sensation. A thought, a touch, a voice — and suddenly, the body and mind react. But arousal is less random than many people think! Lara, a student in Munich, is undergoing sex therapy coaching. Together with Dania Schiftan, a psychotherapist and clinical sexologist based in Zurich, she is exploring the nature of her sexual arousal. One thing becomes clear: many people's sexual desire is heavily shaped by conditioning.
