How did an unknown 18 year old English girl, disowned by her family and living in a scandalous relationship with a penniless poet, who was married to someone else, come to write one of the greatest and most influential masterpieces of English literature? Frankenstein – a name that immediately conjures up images of death, brutish monsters and mad scientists manically laughing in Gothic laboratories illuminated only by random flashes of lightning.
