Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten

Editor's Take

Assembled from the recollections of the people who knew him, this portrait of the Clash's Joe Strummer resists the neat arc a rock biography usually imposes. It moves between the punk insurgency he helped lead and the later, more searching years of world music and open-air conversation, holding the contradictions of the man in view. The approach is collage rather than chronology, letting voices overlap and disagree. For anyone drawn to how a public figure keeps reinventing a private self, it rewards patience.

Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten is a portrait of the Clash frontman who helped define punk before embracing world music and living out his politics. Through his friends, collaborators, and the campfires he gathered people around in his final years, the film pieces together a restless and charismatic life. It captures both the fire of his music and the contradictions of the man behind it. It is a vivid tribute to one of rock's most influential figures. Free to watch in HD on Dr Documentary.
