How Israel Won the West

Editor's Take

Setting out to explain Israel's protected standing in Western politics, this film traces a long arc from biblical origins through centuries of persecution to the founding of the modern state. It is an argumentative essay rather than a neutral survey, interested in how alliances and shared narratives took hold in Europe and America. Viewers will encounter a clear thesis on a deeply contested subject, and are best served approaching it as one framing among several.

How Israel Won the West examines why Israel occupies such a protected place in Western politics and public life. The film traces the long arc of Jewish history, from biblical origins through centuries of persecution to the founding of the modern state, and considers how alliances and narratives took shape. It is a wide-ranging attempt to explain a subject that provokes strong feeling on all sides. Viewers seeking historical context on Israel and the West will find plenty to think through here.
