Cobra Gypsies

Editor's Take

Over three months living among the Kalbeliya, a nomadic community of northern India known for music, dance, and a close bond with snakes, filmmaker Raphael Treza builds an immersive portrait of their daily life. The film is participatory and observational, embedded rather than distant, and interested in worldview as much as ritual. Its color and intimacy come from proximity, the access that living alongside a subject allows. It is a vivid ethnographic glimpse of a way of life rarely filmed.
