HUMAN: The Movie

Editor's Take

Assembled from first-person testimony gathered across the world, the film sets ordinary people's accounts of love, war, and forgiveness against sweeping aerial imagery of the planet. Yann Arthus-Bertrand's design is less a conventional documentary than a mosaic, built to accumulate rather than argue. The pairing of intimate voices with distant landscapes is the organizing idea, and it carries considerable emotional force. It rewards patience, offering a portrait of shared experience rather than a thesis to defend.

HUMAN gathers the voices of people from across the world to ask what it truly means to be human. Filmmaker Yann Arthus-Bertrand spent years collecting first-person accounts of love, war, poverty, joy, and forgiveness, set against sweeping aerial imagery of the planet. The result is less a conventional documentary than a portrait of humanity built from ordinary testimony. It is a moving, meditative film about the experiences that connect us all.
