Planet Ant: Life Inside the Colony

Editor's Take

To watch a colony's hidden life, the film recreates a working ant nest in extraordinary detail and films it over the course of a month. The cameras record how the nest is built, how labor is divided, and how thousands of individuals behave as one coordinated organism. The approach is closely observational, letting the colony's collective intelligence emerge through sustained attention. It reveals a complex society at work beneath ordinary ground, made visible by patient staging.

Over the course of a month, cameras capture how the nest is built, how the ants divide their labour, and how the colony behaves as a single coordinated organism. The film reveals the complex society running beneath our feet with a clarity rarely possible in the wild. It is a fascinating look at one of nature's most successful social insects.
