Children Full of Life

Editor's Take
Observing a fourth-grade classroom in Kanazawa, Japan, the film watches the teacher Toshiro Kanamori treat compassion as seriously as any subject on the curriculum. Rather than drilling for tests, he asks his students to look after one another and to speak honestly about what they feel. The approach is patient and observational, letting genuinely emotional moments arrive in their own time. It is a quiet study of what a classroom can be when its aim is how to live together.
Children Full of Life follows Toshiro Kanamori, a fourth-grade teacher in Kanazawa, Japan, and the extraordinary lessons he gives beyond the standard curriculum. Rather than focus on tests, he teaches his students how to care for one another, share their feelings, and live with compassion. The film captures moments of real emotion in the classroom as children learn what it means to support a friend. It is a moving portrait of teaching aimed at the heart as much as the mind.
