Olympic National Park in Washington State covers the Pacific coast, alpine peaks, and lush temperate rainforests, bringing together three major ecosystems: subalpine meadows, dense forests, and a rugged shoreline. First protected as Mount Olympus National Monument in 1909, it became a national park in 1938 and later earned UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage status. Most of the park is now designated wilderness.
