16 Sunrises - An Astronaut's First Mission to Space

Editor's Take

Charting French astronaut Thomas Pesquet's first six-month stay aboard the International Space Station, this documentary is built around the disorienting fact that each orbital day brings sixteen sunrises. It follows the arc from arduous training through launch, weightless routine, and the return to Earth, told largely from his own vantage. The interest is as much emotional as technical, attentive to what long-duration spaceflight does to a person.

16 Sunrises follows French astronaut Thomas Pesquet through his first six-month mission aboard the International Space Station, where each day brings sixteen orbital sunrises. The documentary moves from gruelling training to launch, life in weightlessness, and the emotional journey home, all seen through his own eyes. It captures both the science of living in orbit and the strange poetry of watching Earth from above. Intimate and beautifully shot, it makes spaceflight feel personal rather than remote.
