Chasing Edward Snowden

Dr.Docs' Take

Snowden copied the receipts, handed them to journalists, and then spent the rest of his life in the one country the story made it awkward for him to leave. This film retraces how a single contractor turned the surveillance state inside out and made 'nothing to hide' sound quaint. I go back and forth on whether he is a hero or a very careful narcissist, and I suspect the honest answer is that it does not matter to your metadata either way. Watch it, then notice how many apps just quietly asked for your location.

This documentary examines Edward Snowden and the leaks that exposed the scale of government mass surveillance. It follows how a contractor came to reveal classified programs, the journalists who broke the story, and the global debate that followed about privacy and security. Along the way it weighs the arguments over whistleblowing, secrecy, and the reach of intelligence agencies. Provocative and timely, it invites viewers to make up their own minds.
