The Unique Wildlife Of Germany's Ancient Forests

Editor's Take

Opening in the rain-soaked Bergisches Land, this film moves through Germany's ancient forests and the streams, rivers, and lakes that feed them. It follows resident wildlife across the seasons, catching behaviour that rarely reaches a camera. The approach is quietly observational, more interested in the woodland's rhythms than in spectacle.

This documentary journeys into the green heart of Germany, beginning in the water-rich Bergisches Land where heavy rainfall has shaped a landscape of streams, rivers, and lakes. It follows the wildlife that thrives among the country's ancient forests through the turning seasons, revealing behavior rarely captured on camera. Along the way it shows how these old woodlands support a surprising diversity of life. Beautifully shot and quietly paced, it is a rewarding portrait of European wilderness close to home.
