2 Hours Of Python Hunters: Can Florida's Extreme Weather Kill The Pythons?

Editor's Take

Riding along with the hunters charged with thinning Florida's Burmese pythons, this two-hour feature tests whether a hard winter has dented the invasion. The Everglades become a stage for a wider reckoning with introduced species, from iguanas to Nile monitors, in a landscape being remade. It is fieldwork documentary, part pursuit and part portrait of an ecosystem under strain.

This two-hour feature rides along with the hunters tasked with controlling Florida's exploding Burmese python population, testing whether a harsh winter has thinned their numbers. Deep in the Everglades and surrounding wetlands, the team also confronts other invasive species, from iguanas to Nile monitors, in a landscape being reshaped by outsiders. The film shows the scale of the ecological challenge and the grit the work demands. Tense and eye-opening, it is a close look at an environmental battle in progress.
