Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media

Dr.Docs' Take

Manufacturing Consent, the 1992 Chomsky film that hands you a brand new pair of eyes for watching the news and then quietly declines to give them back. I consider this required viewing before you believe anything, and yes, that pointedly includes me. Three hours on how public consent gets engineered, one story and one omission at a time. It is the most quietly radical thing on this entire shelf, and nobody has to whisper a word of it.

Manufacturing Consent explores the political thought of Noam Chomsky, the renowned linguist and activist, and his critique of the modern media. Funny, provocative, and accessible, the film examines how mainstream news can shape public opinion and serve powerful interests. Through a collage of interviews and archive footage, it lays out Chomsky's ideas about propaganda in democratic societies. It is a landmark documentary about media, power, and dissent.
