The Living Dead, Part 3: The Attic

Dr.Docs' Take
The Living Dead is early Curtis on how nations use and abuse memory, and The Attic turns that lens on Britain's inability to let go of its own past. I find his argument that a country can be imprisoned by history genuinely haunting. It is quieter and stranger than his later work, and all the more affecting for it. Memory as a weapon, wielded by the people who get to write the story.
This is the final episode of Adam Curtis's series The Living Dead, exploring how nations are haunted by their own history. Titled The Attic, it examines Britain's relationship with its past and the way memory and myth shape national identity. In Curtis's distinctive style, it weaves archive footage into a meditation on power and nostalgia. For fans of ideas-driven documentary, it is a haunting and thought-provoking watch.
