Secret War: The Spy Who Saved D-Day

Dr.Docs' Take

This is the story of Juan Pujol Garcia, codename Garbo, the double agent whose elaborate web of fake spies convinced the Germans the D-Day landings were coming somewhere else entirely. I love that a self-taught liar with an overactive imagination may have saved the invasion. He built an entire imaginary spy network and Berlin paid him for it. One of the great, gloriously improbable true stories of the secret war.

This film tells the story of Agent Garbo, the double agent whose elaborate deceptions helped save the D-Day landings. Part of a series on Churchill's secret army, it reveals how a masterful liar fed the Germans false information at a decisive moment. The espionage and misdirection make for a gripping wartime tale. It is a fascinating watch about spies, deception, and the hidden battles behind the invasion of Europe. Free to watch in HD on Dr Documentary.
