Snowden: An Enemy of the State?

Dr.Docs' Take

Another angle on Snowden, focused on the extraordinary global manhunt launched to catch one contractor who walked out of Hong Kong with the NSA's secrets. I keep watching versions of this story because the reaction is the tell. Governments do not scramble jets and revoke passports over a man with nothing worth hiding. The size of the response is a confession, and I never get tired of pointing that out.

This documentary revisits the case of Edward Snowden, the contractor who leaked details of American mass surveillance and triggered a global manhunt in 2013. It follows the diplomatic scramble to capture him and the debate over whether he was a traitor or a whistleblower. Through the fallout, the film weighs national security against privacy and the public's right to know. It is a sharp examination of secrets, surveillance and the price of exposing them.
