Saving the Wild: The Big Cats

Editor's Take

Joining conservationists across southern Africa's game reserves, this film watches them fit lions and cheetahs with tracking collars. The data gathered is essential to protecting the animals, but the work is hazardous and the margins for error are slim. It holds together the patient science of conservation and the sheer physical power of its subjects. The tension between the two gives the film its charge.

This documentary follows conservationists across the game reserves of southern Africa as they fit lions and cheetahs with tracking collars. The data they gather is vital for protecting these big cats, but the work is dangerous and the stakes are high. The film captures both the science of conservation and the raw power of the animals it aims to save. Tense and purposeful, it shows what it takes to keep Africa's predators wild.
