Mali's Legendary Salt Odyssey: The Last Great Salt Caravan of the Sahara
This documentary joins the Kounta nomads of northern Mali on one of the last great salt caravans of the Sahara. For centuries they have crossed the desert by camel in search of white gold, the salt slabs mined and traded across the region. The film captures the endurance, danger and fading tradition of a journey the modern world is steadily replacing. It is a striking portrait of a way of life shaped by sand, salt and time.
