Conspiracy in the Harem: Was Ramses III Murdered by His Wives?

Dr.Docs' Take

Here is a three-thousand-year-old cold case: a CT scan of the mummy of Ramses III reveals a deep slash across the throat, confirming that ancient court documents about a harem plot to murder the pharaoh were telling the truth. I adore a conspiracy so old the conspirators are also mummies. The paperwork survived, the wound survived, and modern imaging finally married the two. Assassination, palace intrigue, and forensic science across the centuries.

This documentary investigates the death of Ramses III, whose mummy revealed a deep, throat-severing wound during a modern CT scan. Combining palaeopathology with ancient court records, it reconstructs the so-called harem conspiracy, a plot said to involve one of the pharaoh's wives seeking to place her son on the throne. The film weighs the forensic evidence against the surviving trial documents to ask whether the king was truly murdered. It is a gripping blend of Egyptology and cold-case detective work.
