Secret Societies - The Code of the Illuminati

Dr.Docs' Take

Here is the actual Illuminati, the real Bavarian society founded in 1776 and banned by 1785, a ten-year experiment that somehow became the villain of every conspiracy board since. I love this one because the truth is almost funnier than the myth. A short-lived Enlightenment book club got promoted to secret rulers of the world. Watch it to separate the documented history from the two centuries of fan fiction stacked on top.

This documentary examines the Illuminati, the secret brotherhood founded in eighteenth-century Bavaria that dreamed of placing its members in positions of power. Active for only about a decade before being banned in 1785, the society left behind rumours that still circulate today. The film separates the historical record from the myths that grew in its shadow. It is an intriguing watch about secret societies, power, and the enduring appeal of conspiracy.
