American Heretics: The Politics of the Gospel

This documentary ventures into the American Bible Belt to follow ministers and congregations openly challenging fundamentalist Christian doctrine. It profiles believers who read the Gospel as a call to social justice and inclusion, putting them at odds with the religious mainstream around them. The film treats faith seriously while exploring the tensions between belief, politics and conscience. It is a compelling look at a quieter fight over the meaning of American Christianity.
