The Rules of the Game

This documentary follows the ancient and chaotic game of Shrovetide football in the English town of Ashbourne, played every year for some nine hundred years. With goals three miles apart and hundreds of players surging through streets, rivers and fields, it is sport unlike any other. The film captures the passion, tradition and sheer mayhem of a beloved local ritual. A fun, spirited watch on English heritage, community and one of the world's oldest games.
