Sacred Weeds: Part One - Unlocking the World of Narcotics

This documentary revisits the Sacred Weeds series, in which volunteers took powerful hallucinogenic and narcotic plants under close scientific supervision to observe their real effects. It looks at the botany, history and cultural role of mind altering substances, and at what happens to perception when they are used. Rather than sensationalize, it treats these ancient plants as subjects of serious inquiry into the human mind. A curious and thought provoking watch on the science of narcotics and altered states.
