I Tracked Down the Thief Who Stole 200K of LEGO

Editor's Take

An unlikely subject, the theft of collectible LEGO from major retailers, becomes the thread for a first-person investigation into low-profile organized crime. The creator works the case as an amateur detective, following forged receipts and resale channels toward the crews moving bricks at scale. Its appeal lies in the gap between a faintly absurd premise and the genuine criminal machinery it uncovers. The tone is participatory rather than detached, with the filmmaker placing himself inside the pursuit.

When 200,000 dollars of LEGO went missing from major retailers, creator Reckless Ben set out to work the case himself, and this film follows the entire hunt. He traces forged receipts, resale trails, and the organised crews who quietly turned toy bricks into a laundering operation, before confronting the people behind it in person. Part investigation and part caper, it is a surprisingly gripping look at a crime most people never imagine exists. The payoff is the moment the paper trail finally meets a real face.
