Milan Kundera, author of The Unbearable Lightness of Being, was nominated for the Nobel Prize on several occasions. And yet very little is known about the man behind the writer. Born in Czechoslovakia, he emigrated to France in the 1970s, where he wrote several novels in French. In his works, he increasingly criticised the excesses of Western societies.
