Karosta: Life After the USsr
This documentary visits Karosta, an abandoned military port in western Latvia that passed through Tsarist Russia, Nazi occupation, and Soviet control before the Russian army finally left in 1994. It walks the crumbling barracks and fortifications while listening to the people who stayed behind to make a life among the ruins. The result is a portrait of a place still shaped by the empires that used and discarded it. Quiet and reflective, it turns forgotten Cold War geography into human history.
