A double murder at Gallaudet University, a college for the deaf, was committed by student Joseph Mesa Jr. for petty robbery, after he initially framed another student, leaving the campus terrified until FBI forensics and a small financial detail exposed him as the killer of both Eric Plunkett and Ben Varnner. In September 2000, the tranquil campus of Gallaudet University, the world's premier school for the deaf, was shattered by the brutal murder of freshman Eric Plunkett in his dorm room.
