Meet the Residents of Slab City, California

This documentary spends time in Slab City, the off-grid squatter settlement in California's Sonoran Desert that residents call the last free place in America. It follows the regulars who gather at a makeshift desert cafe, sharing coffee, hard-luck stories and a fierce loyalty to a life beyond rules and rent. The film treats its subjects with curiosity rather than pity, showing why people trade comfort for freedom in the heat. It is an honest portrait of an American community living on its own terms.
