Timestamps In winter, K2 shows no mercy. Temperatures drop to –50°C, storms last for weeks, and at that altitude even breathing is a battle. In 2012, Russian climber Vitaly Gorelik — one of the strongest of his generation — was caught in a storm after a brief moment without a glove at 7,000 meters. What began as a minor injury turned into a chain of events that no team, no matter how prepared, could stop.
