Rewriting Evolution: The Rise of Synthetic Biology

Editor's Take

Concerned with a science still taking shape, this film introduces synthetic biology and the prospect of building organisms to order. It surveys applications in medicine, fuel, and materials while giving real space to the ethical objections such work provokes. The tone is neither boosterish nor alarmist, laying promise and hazard side by side. For viewers tracking where biotechnology is headed, it is a measured briefing.

This documentary explores synthetic biology, the fast-emerging science that lets researchers design and build living organisms from scratch. It shows how engineering DNA is being used to create new medicines, fuels, and materials, opening possibilities that were once science fiction. The film weighs the enormous promise against the ethical questions it raises. Fascinating and forward-looking, it captures a scientific revolution in the making.
